Question 152 of the TSLPRB SI Final Written Examination 2023, Paper III (Arithmetic & Reasoning) (8 April 2023). Try it first, then open the answer and explanation.
Directions: Decide whether the data provided in the two statements given under the question is sufficient to answer the question or not. Question : How many girls are there in the row of girls facing North ? Statements : I. Radha is third from the left end of the row and 3rd to the left of Hema. II. Renuka is 5th from the right end of the row and is 3rd to the right of Hema. Give option :
- if the data in statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question;
- if the data in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question;
- if the data in both the statements I and II together is sufficient to answer the question;
- if the data in both the statements I and II together is not sufficient to answer the question;

From I, Radha is 3rd from the left and Hema is 3 places to her right, so Hema is 6th from the left; from II, Renuka is 3 places to the right of Hema, i.e. 9th from the left, and 5th from the right, so the row has 9 + 5 − 1 = 13 girls. Neither statement alone fixes the total, but together they do.
