Find the part of the sentence that contains an error. If there is no error, choose "No error". Ramesh liked his friend's music player to his own.

    2. his friend's music player
    3. to his own.
    4. No error

    Answer: (1) Ramesh liked

The error is in part (1). The verb "like" cannot take a "to" phrase of comparison; the verb that does is "prefer", since one prefers one thing to another. The correct sentence is "Ramesh preferred his friend's music player to his own." Parts (2) and (3) are correct once the verb is changed: "his friend's music player" is the object, and "to his own" (to his own music player) completes the comparison. "Liked ... more than his own" would also be acceptable, but with "to" the sentence needs "preferred".
