If the remainders obtained when 4^n is divided by 7 and 9 are 2 and 7 respectively, then the least possible value of n which is a prime number is

Powers of 4 leave remainders 4, 2, 1 (repeating) when divided by 7 and 4, 7, 1 when divided by 9, so both conditions need n of the form 3m + 2. The least prime of that form is n = 2: 4² = 16 = 2 × 7 + 2 = 9 + 7.
