Five positive numbers are written in a fixed order. The average of first three numbers is 12. The average of middle three numbers is 15. The average of last three numbers is 18. Then the average of first, third and fifth numbers is

With numbers a, b, c, d, e: a + b + c = 36, b + c + d = 45 and c + d + e = 54. Then (a + b + c) + (c + d + e) − (b + c + d) = a + c + e = 36 + 54 − 45 = 45, so the average is 45/3 = 15.
