In a class, the rank of A is 3rd from the top and the rank of B is 13th from the bottom. If the place of C is 8th place after A and is exactly in between A and B, then the total strength of the class is

C is 3 + 8 = 11th from the top; being exactly midway, B is 8 places after C, i.e. 19th from the top. Total = 19 + 13 − 1 = 31.
