2 men and 7 boys can do a piece of work in 14 days. 3 men and 8 boys can do the same work in 11 days. The days needed to complete the same work by 8 men and 6 boys is y. If the daily wages of a man is thrice the daily wages of a boy then the total wages to be paid for these y days is equal to
- the wages of a boy for 210 days
- the wages of a boy for 70 days
- the wages of a man for 39 days
- the wages of a boy for 13 days

14(2M + 7B) = 11(3M + 8B) gives 5M = 10B, so 1 man = 2 boys; the work is 14 × 11 = 154 boy-days and 8 men + 6 boys = 22 boys, so y = 154/22 = 7. With a boy's wage w, the daily bill is 8 × 3w + 6w = 30w, so 7 days cost 210w, the wages of a boy for 210 days.
