In the figure shown below, A person started from A at 6 A.M and finally reached B by 7 A.M. The shadow of the person at B is falling towards the side of A. The direction of A from B and distance between A and B (in meters) when Q is below BR at a perpendicular distance of 4 m is

Since Q is 4 m below BR, the 4√2 m slant QR rises 4 m and runs 4 m, so B is 15 + 4 − 10 = 9 m across and 5 + 4 = 9 m up from A, giving AB = √(9² + 9²) = 9√2 m. The figure has no compass, so the key takes the direction from the shadow: in the early morning (6–7 A.M. in the English, 8–9 A.M. in the Telugu) the sun is in the east and the shadow at B falls westward, so A is on the west side of B, and of the two 9√2 options only North-west is a westward direction (read with North at the top, the figure would put A South-West of B, which is not offered).
