Two cubes, each of volume 4,096 c.c., are joined to form a cuboid. Then the difference between the surface area of the cuboid and the total surface area of the two cubes is (in sq.cm)

Each cube has edge ∛4,096 = 16 cm, so the two cubes have total surface area 2 × 6 × 16² = 3,072 sq.cm. The cuboid is 32 × 16 × 16, with surface area 2(512 + 256 + 512) = 2,560 sq.cm, so the difference is 512 sq.cm (the two faces that are joined and hidden).
