TGPSC HMWSSB Manager 2015 Paper 2 · Question 96
Question 96 of the TSPSC Manager (Engineering), HMWSSB, 2015: Paper 2 (Civil Engineering) (1 November 2015). Try it first, then open the answer and explanation.
A simply supported beam of span L, carries two couples of magnitude M each acting at both middle third locations of the beam. While one of them is acting clockwise the other is acting counter clockwise. Magnitude of the maximum shear force acting in the beam ______.
- 2M/L
- M/L
- 1.5M/L
- 0
Show answer
Answer: (4) 0
The two equal and opposite couples cancel, so both support reactions are zero; with no transverse load and no reactions the shear force is zero everywhere (the bending moment is M between the couples, but there is no shear).
