TGPSC HMWSSB Manager 2015 Paper 2 · Question 74
Question 74 of the TSPSC Manager (Engineering), HMWSSB, 2015: Paper 2 (Civil Engineering) (1 November 2015). Try it first, then open the answer and explanation.
Boundary layer separation takes place when
- ∂p/∂x>0
- ∂v/∂y≤0
- ∂p/∂x>0 & ∂v/∂y≤0
- ∂p/∂x<0
Show answer
Answer: (3) ∂p/∂x>0 & ∂v/∂y≤0
Separation needs an adverse pressure gradient (∂p/∂x > 0) that slows the flow near the wall until the velocity gradient at the wall becomes zero or negative; a favourable gradient (∂p/∂x < 0) prevents separation, and an adverse gradient alone does not guarantee it.
