TGPSC HMWSSB Manager 2015 Paper 2 · Question 31
Question 31 of the TSPSC Manager (Engineering), HMWSSB, 2015: Paper 2 (Civil Engineering) (1 November 2015). Try it first, then open the answer and explanation.
The unconfined compressive strength of a clay in un-disturbed and disturbed state was found to be 180 kN/sqm and 10 kN/sqm respectively. Based on Sensitivity, the soil may be classified as:
- In-sensitive
- Sensitive
- Quick Clays
- Extra Sensitive Clays
Show answer
Answer: (3) Quick Clays
Sensitivity = undisturbed strength/remoulded strength = 180/10 = 18. Clays with sensitivity above 16 are classed as quick clays (8 to 16 is extra-sensitive, 4 to 8 sensitive).
