TGPSC HMWSSB Manager 2015 Paper 2 · Question 26
Question 26 of the TSPSC Manager (Engineering), HMWSSB, 2015: Paper 2 (Civil Engineering) (1 November 2015). Try it first, then open the answer and explanation.
The formula used for calculation of superelevation on railways is ______ (take G = gauge in meters, V = Speed in kmph; R = radius of curve in meters)
- GV²/(127R) m
- GV²/(127R) cm
- GV³/(127R) m
- GV²/(225R) m
Show answer
Answer: (1) GV²/(127R) m
For equilibrium on a curve e/G = v²/(gR); with v = V/3.6 m/s and g = 9.81 m/s² this gives e = GV²/(127R), since 3.6² × 9.81 ≈ 127. With G and R in metres the superelevation e also comes out in metres, so option (2) has the wrong unit.
