Potholes are roughly circular hollows drilled into rocky stream beds by abrasion: pebbles and boulders whirled round by eddies grind into the bedrock and keep deepening the hollow. Attrition is the wearing down of the load particles themselves as they collide, corrosion is chemical solution, and solifluction is a slow mass movement, not stream erosion.
