UPSC CAPF (AC) 2025 Paper I · Question 113
Question 113 of the UPSC CAPF (AC) 2025 Paper I (3 August 2025). Try it first, then open the answer and explanation.
A beam of positively charged particles, say A, is going from north to south. On the other hand, a beam of negatively charged particles, say B, is going from south to north. Which one of the following in this respect is correct?
- B is deflected towards A.
- B is deflected away from A.
- B is deflected upwards.
- B is deflected downwards.

Answer: (1) B is deflected towards A.
Positive charges moving north to south form a conventional current from north to south, and negative charges moving south to north also form a conventional current from north to south. Parallel currents in the same direction attract each other (and the opposite charges also attract electrostatically), so B is deflected towards A.
