In B.S. Guha's racial classification, the Negrito strain, the oldest racial element in India, survives among small food-gathering hill tribes of the south such as the Kadar, Irula and Paniyan, and the official key places the Uralis of the Tamil Nadu hills in this Negrito group. Mongoloids are found mainly in the north-east and Himalaya, and Nordics in the north-west.
