Ram on his birthday received ₹ 8,500 as gift from his relatives. To encourage Ram towards saving the money, his grandfather asked him to lend his money to him at 20% simple interest per annum. Ram's father prepared to lend money from Ram at 15% simple interest per annum. His elder brother is also interested to lend any amount of money from Ram at 10% simple interest per annum. But his grandfather is interested to take only ₹ 5,000 and his father is interested to take the entire money but not any part of it. If Ram lent all the gifted amount, then by his next birthday the maximum possible amount he gets is

Lending all ₹ 8,500 to the father gives 8,500 × 1.15 = ₹ 9,775. Lending ₹ 5,000 to the grandfather (5,000 × 1.20 = 6,000) and the remaining ₹ 3,500 to the brother (3,500 × 1.10 = 3,850) gives ₹ 9,850, which is the maximum.
