   From the first figure to the second, the curved line turns through 180° (its small segment moves from the bottom-right to the top-left) while the symbols stay in place (X at the top, O at the bottom). Doing the same to the third figure moves the small segment from the top-right to the bottom-left, enclosing $ with Y still at the top, which is figure (1).
