Satavahana inscriptions (e.g. Nashik, Nanaghat) and coin legends are in Prakrit, and king Hala compiled the Gathasaptashati in Maharashtri Prakrit. Sanskrit became the main court language only under later dynasties, and Telugu and Hindi had not yet emerged as written languages.
