Kotilingala on the Godavari (old Karimnagar district, now Jagtial) yielded coins of Simuka, the founder of the dynasty, and of pre-Satavahana local rulers, so historians treat it as the earliest Satavahana capital in Telangana. Vemulawada was the seat of the much later Vemulawada Chalukyas, and Dharmapuri is known as a pilgrimage centre, not a Satavahana capital.
