On 13 April 2022 the Indian Air Force (through its Headquarters Maintenance Command) signed an MoU with IIT Madras, under which the institute provides research-backed consultancy for indigenous solutions to maintain and sustain the IAF's weapon systems, as part of its Atmanirbhar Bharat indigenisation drive.
