The Linguistic Provinces Commission appointed in 1948 was headed by Justice S.K. Dhar and is known as the Dhar Commission; it advised against reorganising states mainly on linguistic lines. Nehru was part of the later JVP Committee (Nehru, Vallabhbhai Patel, Pattabhi Sitaramayya), and Sir John Simon led the 1927 Simon Commission.
