TGPSC HMWSSB Manager 2015 Paper 2 · Question 15
Question 15 of the TSPSC Manager (Engineering), HMWSSB, 2015: Paper 2 (Civil Engineering) (1 November 2015). Try it first, then open the answer and explanation.
The psychological widening of pavement is calculated using which one of the following formula (take V = speed of vehicle in kmph; R = radius of the curve in m)
- V²/(9.5√R)
- V/(9.5√R)
- V/(9.5R)
- V³/(9.5R²)
Show answer
Answer: (2) V/(9.5√R)
IRC gives psychological (extra) widening on horizontal curves as W_ps = V/(9.5√R) m. It is added to the mechanical widening nl²/(2R) to get the total widening.
