   Chandra is a confused typist. While typing the numbers from 600 to 799 (both included), he typed 8 wherever he was supposed to type 6. Then the total number of times he had typed 8 is :

   From 600 to 799 the digit 6 appears 100 times in the hundreds place (600-699), 20 times in the tens place and 20 times in the units place, a total of 140. The digit 8 itself appears 20 + 20 = 40 times (tens and units), so he typed 8 a total of 140 + 40 = 180 times.
