   The ratio of Pooja's age to Ajay's age is 1 : 3. The ratio of their ages after 8 years will be 1 : 2. How many years ago was the ratio of their ages 1 : 5?

   Answer: (2) 4 years

   Let the ages be x and 3x: (x + 8)/(3x + 8) = 1/2 gives x = 8, so the ages are 8 and 24. Then (8 - t)/(24 - t) = 1/5 gives 40 - 5t = 24 - t, so t = 4 years.
