With reference to the National Commission for Minorities, consider the following statements : I. It was set up under the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992. II. Ministry of Welfare has notified five religious communities under “Minority” status, to date. III. It can make recommendations for the effective implementation of safeguards for the protection of minorities by Central or State Governments. Which of the above statements are correct ?

The NCM is a statutory body under the NCM Act, 1992, and it can recommend how the Centre and States should implement safeguards for minorities. Six communities have been notified, not five: Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis in 1993, and Jains in 2014. So II is wrong.
