Urban areas that stay warmer than the surrounding countryside are called urban heat islands, so 1 is correct. Loss of green cover and more concrete and asphalt are major causes, but waste heat from vehicles, air-conditioners and industry, closely packed tall buildings that trap heat, and air pollution also contribute, so calling it the "only cause" makes 2 wrong.
