   The Indian Institute of Petroleum (CSIR-IIP), Dehradun was established on 14 April 1960. IIT Delhi began as the College of Engineering and Technology, registered as a society in June 1960 with its first admissions in 1961 (IIT status in 1963), IIM Ahmedabad was set up in 1961 and IISER Pune in 2006, so the petroleum institute is the oldest.
