The D. S. Kothari Committee (report 1976) recommended the present scheme of a Preliminary followed by a Main examination (written papers and interview), adopted from 1979, so A-4; the Satish Chandra Committee (1989) recommended adding optional subjects such as Medical Sciences and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, so B-1. Option (a) is the only code with both A-4 and B-1, so its remaining pairs C-2 and D-3 follow by elimination.
