India's four biodiversity hotspots (the Himalaya, Western Ghats, Indo-Burma and Sundaland, which includes the Nicobar Islands) show high endemism; for example, over three-quarters of the Western Ghats' amphibian species are found nowhere else, so statement 1 is correct. UPSC's key also accepts statement 2, which ranks the Sundarbans first and Nokrek last among India's biosphere reserves by number of species, so the answer is (c).
