   Let the data sets have n1, n2, n3 values: (30n1 + 40n2)/(n1 + n2) = 38 gives n2 = 4n1, and (40n2 + 50n3)/(n2 + n3) = 42 gives n2 = 4n3. Taking n1 = n3 = 1 and n2 = 4, the combined average = (30 + 160 + 50)/6 = 240/6 = 40.
