   In three different vessels A, B and C, a syrup and water are mixed in the ratios of 2:3, 3:5 and 5:7 respectively. 15 liters of mixture taken from A, 16 liters of mixture taken from B and x liters of mixture taken from C are mixed in a new vessel to have the ratio of syrup and water as 2:3 then x =

   The syrup taken is 15 × 2/5 = 6 litres from A, 16 × 3/8 = 6 litres from B and 5x/12 litres from C. For syrup to be 2/5 of the total, 12 + 5x/12 = (2/5)(31 + x). Multiplying by 60 gives 720 + 25x = 744 + 24x, so x = 24.
