Telangana history texts, citing the Siddheswara Charitra, say the Jain scholar Rishabhanatha, persecuted by the Eastern Chalukya king Rajaraja Narendra, took shelter at Hanumakonda, which became a refuge for Jains driven out of the Vengi kingdom. Hanumakonda remained a Jain centre under the early Kakatiyas: a 1117 CE inscription on Padmakshi hill records the Kadalalaya basadi built by Mailama, wife of Prola II's minister Betana.
