   Ramji Gond led the Gond-Rohilla uprising against the forces of the Nizam's Hyderabad State and their British allies in the Nirmal-Adilabad forests during 1857-60. The revolt was crushed in 1860, when he and many of his followers were hanged from a banyan tree near Nirmal, remembered as the "Veyyi Urula Marri" (banyan of a thousand nooses).
